纽森立即公开揭穿了特朗普的谎言，而沃特斯则在其节目中播放了特朗普的言论片段，并评论道：

为了进一步抹黑纽森，沃特斯还在节目中展示了一张特朗普通话记录的截图，记录显示通话确实是在6月7日，也就是纽森所说的那一天。这一拙劣的“障眼法”不仅没能洗白特朗普的错误，反而坐实了纽森的说法——如今，沃特斯要为此付出代价。
值得强调的是，这场诉讼将不动用任何州政府资金，纽森将以个人名义起诉，并通过自己的竞选账户支付所有相关费用，包括律师费及可能产生的罚金。
讽刺意味十足的是，纽森此次索赔的金额——7.87亿美元——几乎与福克斯新闻此前因2020年选举谣言被多米尼投票系统（Dominion Voting Systems）起诉并赔偿的7.875亿美元金额一模一样。
纽森表示，如果福克斯愿意撤回虚假指控，并让沃特斯在节目中公开道歉，他将撤回诉讼。
更令人欣慰的是，纽森承诺，一旦胜诉，其获得的全部赔偿金都将捐赠给反特朗普事业。他强调：

BREAKING: California's superstar Governor Gavin Newsom slams Fox News with a jaw-dropping $787 million lawsuit after hack MAGA host Jesse Watters claimed that he lied about phone calls with Trump regarding the National Guard deployment.
This is a home run and Fox really can't afford any more losses...
"If Fox News wants to lie to the American people on Donald Trump’s behalf, it should face consequences — just like it did in the Dominion case," Newsom told POLITICO. "Until Fox is willing to be truthful, I will keep fighting against their propaganda machine."
Newsom's attorneys are arguing that Watters's show edited a video of Trump to mislead viewers. Newsom spoke with Trump on the phone for 16 minutes on June 7th, the day before Trump deployed the National Guard to Los Angeles. Trump then falsely claimed on June 10th that he had spoken to Newsom "a day ago" which would have been the 9th. Newsom publicly exposed Trump's lie, which prompted Watters to play a clip of Trump's comments and say: "Why would Newsom lie and claim Trump never called him?"
To drive home his smear, Watters displayed a screenshot of Trump's call history which showed the phone called dated on the 7th — just as Newsom had stated. It was a clumsy attempt at sleight of hand and now Watters is going to pay the price.
The governor will not be using state funds to pay for the suit and will instead be personally suing and drawing from his campaign account to pay for any fines or penalties that might emerge.
Not coincidentally, the $787 million sum is nearly identical to the $787.5 million that Fox was forced to pay out to Dominion Voting Systems to settle a defamation lawsuit stemming from lies about the 2020 election. If Fox retracts its claims and makes Watters apologize on air, Newsom has agreed to drop the suit.
Best of all, any money that the governor wins in the suit will be donated to anti-Trump causes. This isn't about making money, it's about knocking these professional MAGA liars down a peg and holding this toxic network accountable.
"It is perhaps unsurprising that a near-octogenarian with a history of delusionary public statements and unhinged late-night social media screeds might confuse the dates," Newsom's attrorneys wrote in a letter to Fox. "But Fox’s decision to cover up for President Trump’s error cannot be so easily dismissed.”
